Setting up Gallery 3 for use with “Publish on Gallery 3”

  1. Make sure you are using Gallery 3, and not Gallery 2. If you are using Gallery 2, then you probably need this plugin.
  2. As an administrator, go to the “Modules” configuration of your Gallery 3 installation.
  3. Activate the REST module by clicking the checkbox and click on “Update” image
  4. Go to your profile by clicking on your name in the upper right hand corner of a Gallery page:

  5. Find your REST API key near the bottom of your profile page: RestApi
  6. Keep the browser page open to your API key for easy copying.

Using “Publish on Gallery 3”

  1. Run the PoG3 installer (.msi extension).
  2. Upon successful installation of the plugin, load up Windows Live Photo Gallery (WLPG)
  3. Select the photos you would like to upload to an album in your Gallery 3 install.
  4. To start the plugin do the following:
    1. For WLPG beta (Wave 4, build 15.3.xxx), click on the puzzle looking piece either in the “Home” ribbon tab: image or the puzzle piece looking icon on the “Create” ribbon tab:image
    2. For WLPG (Wave 3, build 14.x.xx), click the “Publish” menu, and you should either see “Publish on Gallery 3” or go to the “plugin” submenu and then click on “Publish on Gallery 3”.
  5. When you start the plugin, you should see the following screen:image
  6. Before being able upload pictures or create albums, you must first have a valid gallery URL and REST API User Key.
    • The Gallery URL should be to the base of your Gallery 3 installation. For example, if you installed in a subdirectory called “gallery”, you could put in example.com/gallery
    • For the URL, you can include the ‘http://’ (or ‘https://’) or not. The program will normalize the URL before using.
    • Copy the REST API key from the section above into the text box marked “User Key”
    • Selecting the “Remember this” checkbox will save your url and key to an xml file so you don’t have to enter this information. This information is not stored in a secure (encrypted) way, so you decide whether you want to save the info or not.
  7. Once a URL and Key are entered, the “Download Album Info” button should light up. Click that to download album information in your gallery. For example, my site, with some test albums, looks like:PoG3 Filled In User Box
  8. Before uploading your photos, you can create an album by clicking on the folder looking icon with the plus sign. To do so, make sure that you have a current album selected. Clicking the add button will create a new sub-album in the currently highlighted album. You can put in the title and description of the album.image
  9. Once finished, click “Publish” and your photos will be uploaded to your Gallery 3 installation!
